Today’s smartwatches have got many functions that can monitor more than your activities or movements. They can measure the quality of your sleep, measure your heartbeat, and, at least in some cases, even pay attention to blood oxygen levels. However, there are some things they cannot do, such as measurements of independent blood pressure or monitoring non-invasive blood sugar. But the latter, it might get closer to reality by watching Apple with such features behind it as soon as 2022.

Blood pressure monitoring often requires special cuff use or at least some calibration to work. Blood glucose measurement, on the other hand, involves taking several fluids from the body, especially blood decreases. Non-invasive alternatives for the last is one of the holy dishes of the medical and technology and Apple fields is now believed to be at the top of such innovative products.

Of course, there is no concrete evidence that this is the case but SEC’s archiving reveals that, at least, Cupertino actively works towards such a goal. British company Photonics Rockley revealed in the document that Apple is the largest US customer. It also happens that the company is working on technology that detects blood sugar levels using infrared light.

Apple’s ambition in the area is not a secret, of course, but this is probably the first concrete evidence to be prepared to use the technology. Archives revealed that the two companies have supply agreements and development and the majority of Rockley’s profits have come from engineering costs to work on related products.

It might be more interesting, the British Startup CEO revealed that he expected the technology to be in consumer products next year. Naturally, he did not say whether it would be on Apple Watch but some market observers connecting points did see it like that.
